MEGAN GRIFFITH CONSTANTLY is advocating for women in the decorated apparel industry, helping other print shop owners and supporting them with her knowledge base. By swapping ideas, she makes sure that all shops are outputting the best prints they can. She has been in the apparel industry since she was 15 and is the third-generation owner of P&M Apparel. She has two degrees: one in graphic design and one in graphic journalism, and has years of experience screen printing, separating, and design.

Megan is gracious, empathetic, endearing, hardworking, committed, strong, and compassionate, according to her colleagues. She provides a second home at work for her staff and leads by example. She is the first to hop in and help in production — even in heels! She continuously pushes her staff both in sales and production, but also to try new things, be creative, and provides them freedom in decision making.

Always finding ways to let employees be creative in the products the company puts out, Megan’s staff applauds her for being open and honest about how P & M’s products are only has good as the team’s effort. That effort directly is affected by how the staff is treated as individuals, says one of her colleagues. “She’s the type of boss and person that everyone should strive to be,” says one of her five nominators.

Q: Here are some examples of her community involvement:

Megan creates partnerships with local and national screen-printing shops to learn and share. She gave a speech at the inaugural FlyOvercon, started by P & M Apparel, which is an educational event meant to welcome and create community for print shops so they can step away from the feeling of competition.

Megan frequently speaks on panels at industry events to talk about being a third-generation female print shop owner; how the industry has been revolutionized; and employee retention. She is a leader in her community and donates items for events, volunteers, and provides anything she can for those in need.

She works hard every day to make sure everyone around her is being heard and included. She always is willing to help when needed and loves to help support other women in the screen-printing industry. She is a part of the Print Girl Mafia and Printing United Alliance. Megan is consistently a voice for women in the industry and makes sure there is space and recognition for them. Perhaps one of most formidable accolades was being named as Screen Printing Magazine’s Rising Star in 2018.

Q: How does her work push the industry forward?

Megan focuses on the people, not the product. Her mantra is that the team’s work is only as good as how they feel. She focuses on who individuals are as people and where their strengths lie, not just their status as employees. She wants the job to be enjoyable and gives room to be creative and expressive. This leads to inventive new designs, processes, and end products.
