The Academy of Screen Printing Technology (ASPT) added three members to its ranks at SGIA ’07, held in Orlando, FL. They are Pei Guifen (China Screenprinting and Graphic Imaging Association), Andy MacDougall (MacDougall Screen Printing Ltd.), and Neil Bolding (MacDermid Autotype Inc.). ASPT is dedicated to supporting technological advancement and growth in the screen-printing industry.
The organization also presented Mike Ruff, chief technology officer of Nazdar Consulting Services, with the Swormstedt Award. Ruff secured the award, which recognizes the best article or technical paper published between August 1 and July 31, for his article, “Hybrid Curves.” The article, which explained the new concept of setting curves for better color matching, appeared in the fourth-quarter 2006 edition of the SGIA Journal. “Mike’s article on a new industry concept illustrated the Swormstedt Award’s mission of spotlighting an article that promotes the advancement of screen printing,” says Don Marsden, ASPT chairman.
Students and their instructors earned ASPT awards at SGIA ’07. Students received plaques and scholarships toward graphic-arts education, and their instructors received plaques and monetary awards for their respective graphic-arts programs. Joe Ellis of Walton High School and his instructor Dan Campagna won the ASPT's Best in Show Student Award, secondary school division, for “311 Four-color Process with Underlay.” Mayur Patil, Mayur Joshi, Sagar Kale, and Shailesh Yeole of Dhirubhai Mistry Institute for Print Education, Technology, Research and Training, and their instructor Bhargav Mistry, took home the Best in Show Award for their piece, “Berlin Gate.”
