The theme
Is “fast forward” a comment on life in the fast lane or a celebration of technical advancements? That depends entirely on the participants. As in previous years, the theme of this year’s designmaker leaves plenty of room for creativity.

The participants
The competition is primarily aimed at sign makers, graphics companies and advertising agencies that deal with designing visual motifs and the advertising technology behind their implementation. The competition, which is this year in its fifth incarnation, is very popular with young people who relish this excellent opportunity to let their imaginations run wild.

The task
Entrants must design a key visual that can be implemented across ten advertising vehicles. Designs are required to be as technologically feasible as possible. viscom will realise the winning design using digital printing techniques, print & cut systems, textile finishing and sublimation transfers, and will display the results at the trade fair. Participants are tasked with producing an overall design that can be applied to the various media; the advertising vehicles for the design are a full vehicle wrap, a light box, a glass design, a roller banner, stand-alone foil stickers, floor foil, a T-shirt using fabric transfer, textile printing and sublimation transfer, and promotional items such as mugs, pens and flip flops.

The prize
The three best projects will be showcased at viscom. In Hall 8b, on 350 m² of floor space devoted to designmaker, the partners and sponsors will demonstrate live T-shirt printing, sublimation transfer on cups, printing on mobile phone cases, application on aluminium frame systems and much, much more. The prize will be awarded in the designmaker zone on the first day of the Fair, 4 November, before the trade press and the public. The best design will receive €3,000 in prize money; second prize is €2,000, with third place taking home €1,000. In addition, each winner can choose between the CAR SPECIAL/Manual + DVDs with the current, true-to-scale vehicle templates or the creativ collection BUTTERFLY/Manual + DVDs with more than 30,000 professional vector graphics for design and foil cutting. The submissions will be evaluated by a jury consisting of the partners, sponsors and trade media.
