Leggett & Platt’s DirectUV allows the company’s Virtu to print onto uncoated textiles. L&P says the Virtu with DirectUV eliminates the need for transfer paper and prints five to ten times faster than competitive textile printers and with lower ink/dye costs per square foot. The machine prints both roll-to-roll and rigid products and delivers four- or six-color, 600-dpi imaging onto textiles up to 98 in. (2489 mm) wide with 100% bleed. The Virtu uses proprietary, patented UV dye inks. L&P says UV light fixes the dye particles deep in the fiber. The DirectUV process requires a secondary heat set of the UV dye. The printer can be used to decorate apparel, home-furnishing products, tile, carpet, wood, plastics, and more.
