This year’s ASI Show Chicago (asishow.com), to be held July 14-16 at McCormick Place, will again feature the Graphics Central Pavilion for signage, decoration, and graphics professionals. Formerly known as the Signage + Decoration Pavilion, the hub was renamed to reflect the heart at which ASI attendees in the promotional products field meet with sign companies, garment decorators, and other printing professionals.

Hosted by Screen Printing parent company ST Media Group (stmediagroup.com,) the Pavilion is sponsored by Big Picture, Signs of the Times, and Screen Printing magazines, as well as ASI’s Stitches and Wearables.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with ASI again at the Chicago show,” says Tedd Swormstedt, ST Media Group president. “Our audiences in the signage and graphics industries are looking for new business development opportunities, and for many, promotional products are a natural extension of their current businesses. The Pavilion also provides a great forum for ASI distributors and promotional-products companies to see the latest printing and decoration technologies in action.”

ST Media Group will be hosting two half-day workshops on ASI’s Education Day, Tuesday, July 14, the day before the exhibition opens. Screen Printing columnist and 35-year industry veteran Terry Combs will present “Screen Printing 101: How to Start (or Improve) Your Own T-Shirt Business,” followed by “A Real-World View of Large-Format Digital Printing,” taught by Signs of the Times technology editor Darek Johnson. Combs’ morning workshop will cover beginner and intermediate screen-printing topics from the costs of getting started to a five-minute hands-on setup of a four-color job. Later in the day, Johnson will discuss why those new to the industry should get involved in wide-format digital printing, and offer advice on all the basics, including how to select an inkjet printer and digital consumables.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the exhibit days of the show, the Graphics Central Pavilion will feature suppliers of sign making, textile and product decoration, and large-format printing products, alongside a theater that will run free educational seminars throughout each day. Speakers will include Combs, Greeg Gaardbo of Shockwaves Promotional Apparel, Dave Gehrich of Atlas Screen Supply, Dave McClaskey of S&K Manufacturing, and Aaron Montgomery of Coastal Business Supplies on topics including:

• Creative Special Effects for Apparel
• Discharge Printing – Without the Problems
• 30 Niche Markets Where You Can Make More Money
• Finding Customers through Social Media
• Expanding Your Business with Dye Sublimation
• Understanding the Major Garment-Decoration Techniques

Attendees will also have access to ASI’s educational program, featuring keynote speaker Peyton Manning on July 16 as well as sessions on starting a promotional products business, marketing, sales, design, and more.
