Everyone has a personal operating style that just seems to work. When you think of Steve Jobs, you think of an independent leader who really didn’t work with open systems that much. He had a California style that just worked.

Everyone has a personal operating style that just seems to work. When you think of Steve Jobs, you think of an independent leader who really didn’t work with open systems that much. He had a California style that just worked.

In our industry, Ryan Moor, President and CEO of Ryonet Corp., is a leader and teacher who assists and collaborates with others in a teacher-type of role. His style is refreshing in its openness and energetic lift you get every time you follow his direction. Most leaders find this kind of confidence and involvement much later in life, but Moor just exudes it.

Andy MacDougall always has an interesting tale and entertaining background information to share. He isn’t afraid to get involved and to share a laugh before beginning the work. His approach is that of a coach to those who work with him.

Take a few minutes to examine what kind of leader you are. Do you listen? Do you enjoy working with many companies? Do you thrive on competition? Are you a teacher? Do you like working by yourself more than in a group? What makes you feel comfortable, energized and engaged? We cannot always pick and choose what to do for work each day, but we can always choose how we will approach what we do. And the best way to feel good about what you do is to work in harmony with who you really are.
