Northwest Technical College Wins the 2015 PGSF College Poster Design Competition

Northwest Technical College, Goodland, KS, has won the 2015 Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) College Poster design competition. The poster titled, “Get in Gear…apply today for a PGSF Scholarship," was submitted by Jacquelynn V. Branch and will be distributed to all colleges and high schools in the United States that have printing and graphic communication programs for the 2015–2016 academic year. This student-designed poster is used to promote the availability of scholarships to pursue a career in the graphic communication industry.

The Poster design competition was entered by many classes and individual students that used the competition entry as a real working assignment. "All educators at Northwest Tech strive to deliver on our mission: to prepare individuals for gainful employment, productive personal lives, and lifelong learning. We believe that empowering our students with technical skills sets a positive trajectory for their careers and their lives,” said Ian Tompkins, Computer Graphics Technology Instructor at Northwest Technical College.

Mr. Tompkins added, “Teaching at the cutting edge of technology can be costly. Organizations like PGSF, which generate funds for hard-working students to attend school, are essential to continue training the best possible technicians and professionals.

"As a technical program, Computer Graphics Technology at Northwest Tech relies heavily on the knowledge, advice, and support of our advisory board, which is populated by industry professionals. We utilize their expertise to ensure that our graduates meet the needs of the industry. When industry supports education, education can support the industry!”

“All of the student submissions to the foundation were of a truly professional caliber, making it a challenging choice for our team of judges,” said John Berthelsen, Vice-president of Development at PGSF. “There were a number of great looking posters. Jacquelynn’s entry used a graphic style that stands out, while both presenting our PGSF brand and providing a message about the availability of scholarship funds with a call to fellow students to take action."

More than 200 college students attending 78 schools are receiving financial assistance through PGSF. However, many more deserving scholarship applicants are turned down due to lack of funds.
