Education can come from many sources. Take traceshows, for instance, even the basic ones can add to what you already know or challenge a long-held belief. Just this week a short conference was announced called "Introduction to Printing." The brochure called it a fun and information-packed event covering just the basics, such as:
History of the industry and its impact on human history

Terminology

Color Theory and the impact of color
(how do we get all those colors from only four inks?)

Common machinery used in print production

At first I thought it too basic for most printers I know. However, there’s always room to re-learn the basics. The presenter is Tom Stodola, a man who conducts process audits for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). Prior to his career in environmental auditing he spent over 30 years in the printing industry. He was Director of Management Services with PIASC and worked in a medium sized printing company as general manager. If you’re in the Los Angeles area on December 19th, I highly suggest that you stop in. Here’s the info.

Knowledge, whether it’s new or re-learned is never wasted and can always be passed on to others. And local events make it all the more attractive.
