Pinpoint Laser Systems says its roll-alignment kit is an ideal way to make quick, precise, and quantitative measurements over large machines with numerous rollers. The kit also can be used for the alignment of shafts and web-handling systems. Users place the laser on a swiveling base, and a plane of light is directed across the top of the rollers. A digital receiver displays readings of the roller orientation to within 0.001 in. (0.0254 mm). If the rollers are at varying heights, users might need to find the most appropriate elevation for the laser beam to pass through the machine. The digital information on the position of the laser beam can be used for calculating surface flatness, run-out straightness, parallelism, and other geometric alignment parameters.
