SGIA, Fairfax, VA, presented several awards during SGIA ’06, which took place Sept. 26-29 in Las Vegas, NV. MacDermid ColorSpan, Minneapolis, MN, received its second Product of the Year award in the past three years. MacDermid ColorSpan’s DisplayMaker 72SR won the honor in the Flatbed Rigid Substrate Output Device category. MacDermid ColorSpan’s 9840UV won an award for best output from flatbed printers on rigid substrates. The 30 x 40-in. image was printed on a sheet of Alcan GatorPlast.

Océ received the Digital Printing and Imaging Association (DPI) Vision Award for its Arizona 250 GT near-photographic-quality flatbed and roll-to-roll UV inkjet printer. The 250 GT was recognized as the new digital product development most likely to have a profound and positive effect on the industry. 3P Inkjet Textiles received its second DPI Product of the Year award for its Universal Glossy Canvas (IQ-IJ109) in the Fabric category.

Leggett & Platt Digital Technologies’ Richard Codos was honored with the 2006 DPI Innovator Award. Codos was a developer of Virtu technology, the first UV textile printer and the first superwide-format UV rigid-substrate printer. Other accomplishments include the UV dye system, the integrated two-step curing process for textiles, the two-step, textile pigment-ink-curing system, the cold UV-curing light system, the AutoLoad System, TypeSense technology, and the DirectUV Printing System.
