Digital Systems Technology bills its UVD-VAC as the first digital UV vacuum-formable ink in the world. DST designed the ink system for second-surface applications on plastic substrates used in the vacuum-forming process: polystyrene, PETG, polycarbonate, high-impact polystyrene, PVC, acrylic, and more. UVD-VAC inks are formulated for an 800% elongation capability, a draw depth of more than 6 in. (152 mm), resistance to moisture, flexibility for multilayer applications and diecutting, color strength necessary for backlit applications, and estimated outdoor durability of three to five years. DST says the inks are free of heavy metals and N-VP. According to DST, the optimal cure window is 310-350 mJ/755 mW, generally achieved with two 300-W/in. mercury-vapor lamps.
