Gerber Scientific Products reports that it has added six capabilities to boost the performance of the Solara UV2 hybrid UV inkjet printer. Full-Bleed Print Mode allows users to print edge-to-edge graphics on rigid materials up to 0.5 in. (13 mm) thick in the Solara’s 60 x 120-in. (1524 x 3048-mm) maximum print size. Solara’s new Performance Print Mode is designed to increase capacity by way of a two-pass print function. Gerber says the enhanced Solara can print up to 18 signs in a 4 x 8-ft (1219 x 2438-mm) size or 200 signs in an 18 x 24-in. (457 x 610-mm) size in a day with high-quality results. Rest Mode is a new operation that is designed to extend the life of the Solara’s printheads. It activates once the printheads have been idle for 60 min. Intelligent error messages are a part of the Solara’s new troubleshooting routine. They offer users solutions when troubleshooting printer operation. Those who use materials that the Solara can’t measure with its laser-guided material-scan system, such as clear acrylic with no backing, can now use the printer’s Material Size Specification function to enter exact dimensions for a print job. Finally, vacuum-table control allows users to manually adjust Solara’s vacuum when using lightweight materials or demanding substrates, such as cloth or scrimless banner. The upgrades are available to existing Solara owners as a cost-free download.
