Workhorse Products, a manufacturer of manual and automatic garment presses, announces that it has found success in the four-day work week it implemented in November, 2008. The company discovered, using data from the Sierra Club, that based on the average employee driving approximately 15 miles each way to work, getting 100 cars off the road would prevent approximately 5200 pounds of carbon dioxide from being released per day—or approximately 270,400 total pounds per year.

“In the manufacturing industry, there are not a lot of processes that we do that are possible to make greener, but in this area we can make a difference,” says Tim Dunham, sales manager. “Now we operate with a very minimal staff, technicians, and a couple of shipping people on Fridays so none of our customers are without support. But in terms of manufacturing, our plants are open only four days a week.”
