Pad printers who want to go direct-to-plate when making cliches may find what they need in ITW Trans Tech’s new StarLight LPM. It’s based on a 5-amp C02 laser that ITW says produces high-quality cliche plates with etched images that are ready to use. StarLight is bundled with software that is designed to simplify artwork import and positioning. The laser system works in conjunction with a print driver on Microsoft Windows XP systems and requires a dedicated computer system with USB port. ITW recommends the use of CorelDRAW X3 software for printing with the driver. External venting is required. ITW specifies an exhaust system capable of supplying a minimum airflow of 150 CFM while under a load of 6 in. of static pressure. ITW Trans Tech, 75 N.
