Sony established the program in 2001 to encourage suppliers to produce components with minimal environmental impact. The following year, Sony established a set of management regulations for environment-related substances to be controlled when included in parts and materials. Sony auditors visited Nazdar corporate headquarters to verify each stage of ingredient procurement, certification, and manufacture.
