The Organic and Printed Electronics Association (OE-A, www.oe-a.org) has announced that it will display 19 notable submissions from its fifth annual Demonstrator Competition at its booth at the LOPEC tradeshow (www.lopec.com) next month in Munich.

Projects include a roll-up loudspeaker printed on foil; a foldable keyboard printed on paper; an interactive yoga mat; an illuminated, electroluminescent scaffolding wrap; and several innovations in packaging. Arjowiggins Creative Papers, for example, has created printed paper circuits that will supply a customer with an NFC-enabled smartphone with information about the product on display. And Quad Industries and the ChangZhou Institute of Printed Electronics have each developed smart labels that monitor the temperature of sensitive products such as medications and perishable food. The labels combine printed antennae and batteries with the use of a silicon-based chip, following a trend of blending printed and classical electronics that has been gaining speed across the industry.

The competition will also feature a new public choice award this year. Prizes in all five categories – public choice, freestyle, prototypes and new products, publicly-funded projects, and design and concept study – will be awarded at the LOPEC dinner on March 4.
