Construction areas in downtown New Orleans will get a face lift thanks to the combined efforts of the Specialty Graphics Imaging Association (SGIA), Fairfax, VA, and volunteer member companies and affiliates. The SGIA Canal Street Initiative will see the city’s busy thoroughfare installed with colorful large-format graphics that represent and promote the city’s historical heritage.
“This is a major undertaking that will not only enhance the building facades along Canal Street, but also publicize the lucrative and aesthetic possibilities of large-format digital imaging,” says Michael Robertson, president and CEO of SGIA.
SGIA will provide graphic files that volunteer member companies will print and install on Canal Street, from the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center to the French Quarter. Nearly 20 companies are already committed, including SGIA member printers, manufacturers, suppliers, and installation specialists.
“We are so grateful to SGIA for this extremely generous donation, and for the organization’s support of New Orleans,” says Stephen Perry, president and CEO of the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The installation of these beautiful graphic panels will be a much welcome addition to the urban landscape.”
New Orleans will be home to SGIA’s 2009 trade show and exhibition. For more information, contact SGIA, 10015 Main St., Fairfax, VA USA 22031, 703-385-1335, fax: 703-273-0456, Web: www.sgia.org.
