MGE and Esko-Graphics joined forces to develop a small-format cutting system for signage, decals, P-O-P displays, and other specialty graphic applications, as well as short-run production of folding carton boxes. The Kongsberg i-XE-10 dieless cutting system is based on the technology of the Esko-Graphics Kongsberg family of cutting and creasing tables and combines a cutting table with the MGE i-cut Vision system. The system features a work area of 31.5 x 43.3 in. (800 x 1100 mm) and accepts material as large as 35.4 x 47.2 in. (900 x 1200 mm) and roll materials up to 35.4 in. wide. The i-XE-10 is equipped with a rack-and-pinion X/Y drive, servo system, and tooling set. Tooling options include a pressure-controlled, kiss-cutting knife; a knife with programmable cutting depth; a static knife for solid materials; an oscillating knife for corrugated and foam board; and a crease tool for packaging materials. Tooling comes with quick connectors, including electrical connections and automatic tool identification. The system’s i-cut camera measures the registration marks on each printed piece placed on the cutting table and reportedly delivers extremely accurate registration that compensates for local or overall distortion of the material. Users can load material manually onto the table or, when assisted by a belt-feed mechanism, the table can automatically stack printed material onto the cutting bed either as individual sheets with the assistance of the MGE Auto-feeder or fed from a continuous roll with the express Roll-feeder unit. The Kongsberg i-XE-10 will be distributed to North American signmaking, screen-printing, and digital-imaging markets by MGE. Esko-Graphics will distribute the system to the packaging markets in North America and the rest of the world.
