Three New HP Latex Printers

Aimed at small- to medium-sized print-service providers, the HP Latex 300 Series adds three new models to HP’s (www.hp.com) line of wide-format latex inkjet printers. The new models are all six-color (CMYKLcLm), 1200-dpi printers that use HP 831 Latex printheads with third-generation HP 831 inks offering comparable scratch resistance to solvent inks on PVC banners and vinyl, according to the company. Inks are furnished in 775-ml cartridges and have outdoor durability of up to three years (five with lamination).

A seventh ink channel is used for the HP Latex Optimizer, which the company says interacts with the ink to immobilize pigments on the surface of the print, improving image quality.

The Latex 310 is a 54-in. roll-fed printer with six print modes ranging from 54 sq ft/hr (20 passes for high-saturation textiles) to 517 sq ft/hr (two-pass billboard graphics). The Latex 330 is a similar machine with a 64-in. print width and a seventh print mode called Outdoor High Speed, with four passes and a maximum speed of 248 sq ft/hr. Both the 310 and 330 are furnished with the SAi FlexiPrint HP Edition RIP; the take-up reel is standard with the 330 and optional with the 310. The Latex 360 is billed as a higher-productivity unit with a top speed of 334 sq ft/hr in four-pass, Outdoor High Speed mode. The 360 has an ink collector that allows porous textiles to be printed without a liner and an optical media-advance sensor to automatically control registration, including for double-sided prints.
