The printing industry is saddened by the loss of David L. Sloan, manager of technical service at Polymeric Imaging Inc. He passed away August 11, 2006.

Sloan was born Feb. 8, 1949 in Kansas City, MO and lived in the area for most of his life. Sloan’s early work in the printing industry included employment at K.C. Coatings from the late 1960s to 1985. He then worked at Midwest Coatings until 1987 and joined Sericol that company acquired Midwest Coatings. He left Sericol in 2004 to manage technical service at Polymeric.

Sloan’s colleagues remember him as the cornerstone for customers in need of technical assistance, someone with vast knowledge who could answer an array of questions, and a mentor who was eager to share his considerable experience. He also helped the company’s research group make product adjustments to meet customers’ needs—an ability that earned him the reputation of being the key to getting things done in the lab and production office.

“For those of us who had the privilege to know David, it was very clear that he was special,” says Michael Plier, Polymeric’s executive vice president. “David was genuine…. He was an anomaly—one of a kind. We will all miss him dearly.”

Sloan was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea. Fishing, cooking, and sports were among his many hobbies. He is survived by his daughter, Angie McCoy of Lenexa, KS; his father, Dale Sloan of Warsaw, MO; his brother, Don Sloan of Merriam, KS; his sisters Sheryl Garnett of Overland Park, KS, Janet Cooper of Lenexa, KS, and Carol Wilson of Laurie, MO; former wife, Deanna Boyd of Shawnee, KS; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty McClure.
