Solar Inks, the UK-based ink supplier, has launched Earthinks, a range of environmentally friendly water-based screen and flexographic printing inks.

Earthinks are made from natural ingredients, including soy, starch, sugars, dextrin, tree resin, cellulose, and other polysaccharides. In addition, natural waxes are used to replace standard petroleum-based synthetics, and natural oils are used to defoam instead of mineral oils. Further, Earthinks are glycol- and silicone-free, contain no heavy metals, and have near-zero VOC levels, the company reports.

The new inks are low-viscosity and low-foaming, and are designed to be stable over long runs. They can be sued on a variety of substrates, including: corrugated; flexible packaging; labels; envelopes; and paper converting.

The company also offers an ink-recycling program in conjunction with its new inks, as well as online color matching and product ordering.

Although the inks are not yet available in the US, the company reports that it is seeking a distributor in the States.
