The Imperial Cotton Centre for the Arts, Hamilton, ON, Canada, invites artists and designers to submit original designs for the Big Yarn 2007 T-shirt competition, which will be held on Aug. 11 at the Imperial Cotton Centre for the Arts. The contest is part of the Big Yarn summer arts festival, which draws approximately 1000 people for a day of local art, music, family fun, architecture, and an outdoor concert.

This year’s event will feature more than 40 artists’ studios, multiple live performances, a film stunt show, a kids arts and crafts area, an exhibit from the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada entitled Graphex ’06, and FELT, an exhibit and sale of artist projects made of industrial felt from manufacturer VOITH Fabrics.

The winning T-shirt will be reproduced to create 200 shirts, which will be sold at the event and worn by all event staff. A display of all entries featuring the artists’ names and biographies also will be present throughout the event. The winning artist will receive a one-time design fee of $250.00. The artist’s name will appear on the T-shirt, the event Website, and will be displayed at the event. The winning artist also will be given a free display space in the Innovation Alley at the event.

To enter the contest, submit a physical T-shirt with your design, your name and contact information, a biography of no more than 150 words, and a brief statement outlining the best method of reproduction for your design. Send all entries by Friday, June 1 to T-Shirt Design Competition Selection Committee, Imperial Cotton Centre for the Arts, 270 Sherman Ave. N., Unit 18, Hamilton, ON L8L 6N4, Canada.
