This week, the screen-printing industry mourns the loss of Donald B. Pettry. For those who aren’t familiar with the name, Mr. Pettry invented plastisol inks. His innovations have enabled an inestimable number of garment screen printers to ply their trade. (A celebration of his life can be found here.)

Although Mr. Pettry has passed, his legacy will live on, however quietly, on millions—if not billions—of garments worldwide and in the inkrooms of many, many screen-printing shops of all sizes.

How many of us can say we’ve come up with something groundbreaking—something that has fueled an entire industry on a global scale?
